The Crossroads

It's dark, late at night and you're all alone, wandering
along a rutted dusty country road nearing your destination. A ghost moon
peers out from behind the scudding clouds every now and then, letting you see
the fields of cotton gently moving as the breeze starts to pick up, making
the plants whisper. A dog howls from a farm yard.
You can smell the rain in the air, it's going to pour
soon. Far off a distant rumble of thunder starts rolling across the sky
before it cracks above you like a thousand fireworks, so loud it makes you
jump.
Suddenly the night flares and lights up like midday as
the sheet lightening flickers across the sky, burning itself into your
retinas so that you can still see it after it's finished.
The hair on the back of your neck prickles as you hear
something quickly drawing closer. You stop and turn slowly as you
realise you're not alone. Suddenly a sound like panes of breaking glass
crashes through the night, the plaintive wail of an electric guitar playing
the blues hits you like a freight-train.
You've
arrived at ‘The Crossroads’. Your weekly hit of blues and blues
influenced music here on 98.9 North West FM, your local station.
From the Deep South on up the Mississippi to Chicago,
spreading East to the Atlantic and across to the UK and Europe, and to the
West and the Pacific and on to Australia. You'll hear the blues as it
was played in the early 1900's right through to the 21st century. Be it
Robert Johnson picking his 6-string acoustic in a tin shack to Eric and Jimi
tearing it up in the 60's, through to the artists of today. You'll hear
it all, right here, down at 'The Crossroads', every Wednesday evening,
2100-2230.
Hour host, Willie Brown (aka Nic Tashkoff), was born at a
relatively young age, growing up in rural Victoria, and developed an
affinity with the Blues from his school days. (We could say
that his personality is so repellent that we think radio is the best
communication form to be exposed to Willie, as it allows him access to only
one of your senses, but conscious as we are of the ever present threat of
litigation from all quarters, we thought it best simply to limit ourselves to
a warning that this programme is definitely NOT for those with impressionable
minds).
