News at 98.9 North West FM

v      Welcome to our website - keeping you up to date with what’s on.

v      One of the longest running programs on North West FM, Alex The Seal (Thursdays 9 pm) will soon be merging with Streets Of Your Town (Thursdays 10.30 pm).
The new program Cool For Cats will run from 9 pm to 10.30 pm with Steve Groves and David Whiting alternating as hosts. It will debut on May 29 with David Whiting hosting the first show.
v      Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea: North West FM will be hosting Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea again this year at our studios in Charles Street Hadfield on Thursday May 22 at 10.30 am. This raises much-needed funds to assist The Cancer Council in cancer research, education and support services.
v      Vale Mick Pearson: North West FM shares with members and listeners deep sadness at the passing of Michael John (Mick) Pearson on April 10, 2008. Our sincere sympathy to his wife, family and friends.
Mick joined us 18 months ago and presented two programs each week: “One Hit Wonders” on Fridays and “No. 1 Hits” on Thursdays. Mick was a bright chatty personality, presenting music that he loved. He will be sadly missed.
v      Peter Smith (Friday Morning Magazine) is recovering from his recent illness and we wish him a speedy recovery.
Thanks to Kevin Kinloch for stepping in to host his program (and others). He gets the 2008 Mr. Polyfilla Award for his efforts.
v      Congratulations to Bridie Byrne (D-Selection), one of two lucky people offered a journalism cadetship at the Warwick Daily News in Queensland for a year. We wish Bridie the best in her future as a journalist.
v      The Craigieburn Festival was held on February 24 2008 and North West FM again managed the Main Stage. Of particular note was Stace (Radio Elvis), very entertaining and popular with his repertoire of Elvis songs!
However, Darren Grindrod (For Your Pleasure) won the award for 'talking under concrete' - he kept it up for at least 30 minutes without repeating himself once while he and the audience patiently waited for the 'next performer' to arrive and get ready.
v      Congratulations to Carlo from the “Viva Italia” program for his Highly Commended Award in the category of “Contribution To Ethnic Broadcasting” at the CBAA Conference Awards on Saturday November 24, 2007. Quite an amazing effort, especially when the winner was a full time (Melbourne wide) Ethnic language station!
Also congratulations to Ivor and the team from “Sports of all Sorts” for being finalists in the category of “Excellence In Sports Programming”.
v      The annual Broadmeadows Community Festival was held on Sunday November 18, 2007. The crew from North West FM were there, assisting with stage-managing and promotion.
v      Glenn Scarborough (North West Amateur Footy Report) was named the joint winner of the Media Personality Of The Year Award 2006 at the VAFA's 2007 season launch. The other joint winners were from Inner FM and Southern FM for their combined efforts in broadcasting the VAFA Grand Final which was simulcast on all three stations.
The award recognised Glenn's efforts in “promoting the VAFA, particularly in the North West region via 98.9 North West FM”. It was back to back awards for the newly appointed St Bernard’s General Manager ... well done to Scatters, 2 years in a row!
v      North West FM attended the Kangan Batman Tafe Orientation Day on February 14, 2007. Sarah’s photos of the day.

v      One of North West FM’s announcers was invited to participate in the Queen’s Baton Relay

on March 9, 2006. Who was this mystery person?

v      Sports Of All Sorts” wins award for best cricket coverage on radio.
