On Friday 3rd August, Melbourne band The Prairie Oysters were presented with the Les Keats Memorial Award for the most popular band as voted by the members of the Country Music Guild of Australasia. They were one of 19 bands to perform at The Guild during the year 2006-2007 and the guys were genuinely surprised and delighted to receive the award. The other two finalists were both previous winners of the award - Mustang (the house band for the night) and the ever-popular The Dalton Gang (featuring Leo Dalton, a member of the Hawking Brothers). Joy
Keats, co-founding member of The Guild in 1968 and the wife of the late Les
Keats was also present despite her ill health. |

The
Pascoe Vale RSL was packed to hear the three finalists each perform a set.
Others to perform included The Guild’s President Keith Green, Johnnie Johns,
Glen Lee and Kerran Keats (son of the late Les Keats). A note from the band: “The Prairie Oysters would like to thank The Country Music Guild for their continuing support and of course the members and non-members who follow the band around and voted for them. We are truly chuffed to be the recipient of such a special award”. Read
